Brantley Carter: 2 Months Old!

Happy 2 months, Brantley Carter!  Time sure does fly!  It seems like just yesterday when we left for the hospital to be induced!  I love that you're getting older--that means you're closer to the fun, more interactive stage--but I want to slow the clock at the same time because I love this cuddly, newborn stage, as well!  You seem to get stronger and more alert by the day.  You are pretty good at holding your head up - good enough that we tried out your Bumbo last week!  You loved the new perspective it gave and just starred at all of your surrounding with awe!  Everyone says you're still so small, but Daddy and I comment on how big you're getting all the time.

In your Bumbo for the first time

You had your 2-month appointment early at just shy of 6 weeks.  Your doctor wanted to give you your 2-momth immunizations before our trip to SC, but turns out, it was two days too soon.  So back we went the following week for your shots.  You were a brave little boy and did very well.  Screamed for about 20 seconds and then forgot all about it.  Grandma happened to be visiting and went with us.  Both Grandma and Mommy may have gotten a little teary eyed, but held up pretty well! :)

Bandaids from your shots

I am loving my time off with you!  I still have six weeks with you, though I know those six weeks will be gone in no time!  Tomorrow, we're taking you to your first Mill Valley football game and next week we have big plans to go to the MV Homecoming parade.  Fun stuff!  Mommy is already so excited to show you off to all her students!

Size* - Height = 21.5 inches (30th percentile); Weight = 9 pounds 9 ounces (29th percentile); Head Circumference = 37.3 cm (19th percentile)

*Keep in mind, these statistics are from your appointment at 5 weeks and 5 days old.  When we were back the following week for shots, I had them weigh you (with diaper and onesie) and you were 10 pounds 13 ounces.  I'm guessing you're around 11 pounds now??

Words - Crying every now and then (when hungry or tired), but mostly just baby talk - coos, babble, whimpers, etc.

Activity - It's amazing how much more alert you are now than a month ago!  You love to look around at everything from the ceiling fan to your mobile to the spindles on the staircase.  You even like to look at the tree branches when we go on family walks...they make you smile for some reason!  We try to put you under your play gym a few times per day (sometimes you like it, sometimes you don't) and you also sit in your Bumbo!

Food - Still alternating between formula (Enfamil Newborn) and breast milk, though you only get 2 to 3 bottles of breast milk daily.  (I'm just not producing enough.)  You eat 6 to 7 times per day, beginning at 7am and ending at 11pm, 4 to 5 ounces each time.

Sleep - Until three days ago, I would have said you are an amazing sleeper!  You would typically sleep between your final two feedings (8pm and 11pm), wake up to eat at 11, and then sleep like a baby until 6:30 or 7 in the morning.  After eating at 7am, you would usually go back to sleep for another hour or two and give Mommy a chance to sleep in.  However...you have woken up hungry around 4/4:30 the previous three nights in a row.  The first two nights I thought it was because you didn't eat five full ounces during your 11pm feeding, but last night we made sure you finished all five ounces and you still woke up. What is the deal?  We loved your 7 to 8 hour stretch of sleep each night and bragged about you to everyone!  People kept telling us that if we had a good sleeper at 4 weeks, we'd probably still have one at 4 months, 4 years, etc., but that seems to be changing.  I'm really hoping it's just a short phase and that that phase ends before I go back to work on October 22.

Hair - You definitely have your daddy's hair - little on top and a lot in the back. :)  Right now, it's a dark brownish color, almost red in some light.  Daddy and I both have red hair in our families, so it's possible you'll be a redhead.

Eyes - Blue right now.

Likes - Still any kind of movement (car rides, stroller rides, the swing), bathtime, watching the ceiling fan, your mobile, staring at yourself in the mirror on your swing, having your head rubbed.  You still love being swaddled - it almost always calms you down when crying - and you find comfort in sucking on your paci.

Dislikes - Being hungry, tummy time.  That's all I can think of right now!

Wardrobe - You still fit in some newborn-size stuff, but mostly 0-3 and 3-6 month clothing.  I did sort through your drawers and packed up a few newborn onesies that are a bit small.  Your newborn pajamas are also quite snug...makes Mommy sad. :(

Diapers - Size 1.  Still using both Pampers and Huggies - we have an abundance of both on hand!

Mommy's Faves - You make the most adorable little faces, especially when you're sleeping, but nothing, I repeat NOTHING, beats seeing you smile, especially when it's me you're smiling at! :)
