Brantley Carter: 4 Months Old!

4 months already?!?!??!  That is just crazy talk!  Since this momma always thinks in terms of numbers, that's 1/3 of a year!  My baby is 1/3 of a year old!!  Doesn't even seem possible!

It also doesn't seem possible that it's been over a year since I found out I was pregnant!  I meant to do a blog post on the 1-year anniversary (October 27 to be exact), but never got to it.  It's amazing to me that one year ago you were the size of a poppy seed and now this!  We are so proud of you Brantley, our growing baby boy!

Speaking of, we may or may not have used our luggage scale to weigh you in a canvas grocery bag this week.  And you may or may not have weighed around 15 pounds. :)  Normal, right?  I never made it to the Mommy & Me Boutique like I wanted, so we had to settle for second best.  I'll have a more accurate weight next week after your 4-month check-up!

I can't decide if being back at work makes my days go faster or slower.  I'm definitely more tired and feel like I don't get much done around the house.  And less blogging.  Which is a bummer.  All the while, you just keep growing and growing!  You've got quite the belly on you.  And a double chin.  And thighs.  I swear those thighs grew overnight.  One day you had skinny, little, chicken legs.  The next day?  Chunky monkey thighs.

Your 4-month birthday coincided with the presidential election (Obama was elected for a second term).  Hence, the pictures with the American flag.  You didn't care.  You decided you'd rather eat it.

Size - Around 15 pounds, assuming our luggage scale is accurate.

*Update as of 11/16/12 (4 months & 10 days): Height = 24.2 inches (16th percentile); Weight = 14 pounds 13 ounces (40th percentile); Head Circumference = 41.0 cm (15th percentile)

Words - Still no words, but lots of baby babble.  You also "hoot" like an owl.  Kinnick thinks it's weird.

Activity - You've now rolled from belly to back and from back to belly!  You are reaching and grabbing for things and finally started to play with a few select toys (rings, ball, Sophie, etc.).  You love to lay under your play gym and love to sit in your Baby Einstein bouncer (despite being inches from the floor still).  We've gotten you to laugh a few more times since the first time a month ago, but not nearly as much as we'd like.

Food - You are up to 6 ounces each feeding and eat 5 to 6 times per day (30 to 36 ounces total).  We successfully dropped your sixth feeding for a week or two, but once you started waking up early for daycare, it seemed you needed another meal each day.  Still on the Target brand of Enfamil Infant and it works just fine.  I have a feeling after your 4-month check-up next week, we'll get the go-ahead to start rice cereal!  Where is my baby going????

Sleep - Still sleeping like a champ!  If anything, you cry for a couple of minutes when we put you in your crib, but then you're out for 7 to 8 hours!

Bedtime/Waketime - Bedtime is anywhere between 8:00 and 9:00, after your last feeding.  You are accustomed to your earlier wake time and awake anywhere from 5:30 to 7am.  Usually, right around 6:15, but sometimes I watch you lay there and look around as early as 5:30.  Silly boy.

Hair - Mostly blond on top, a few brown patches in the back.  And still reddish at times.

Eyes - Still bright blue.

Likes -Your toes!!  You LOVE to suck on your toes!  With such a big belly, it's surprising you can even get them to your mouth, but you can, and you suck/play with them all. the. time.  Here's proof.

You also love to suck on your fingers.  It's not uncommon to see you attempt to put your entire fist in your mouth.
Other likes include eating, bath time, daycare friends (they love you, too!), your play gym, your bouncer, white noise, being held, Mommy & Daddy, your paci, your swing, diaper changes, watching t.v., basically all the same things as last month.

Dislikes - Being tired & being hungry.  We have a pretty happy baby!

Wardrobe - 3 to 6 month clothing now, but not for much longer!

Diapers - Just made the switch to size 2s!

Mommy's Fave - Still can't beat baby laughter, but since those giggles are few and far between, I'm gonna have to say that baby smell!  Especially after being away from you all day.  There's nothing better than snuggling and taking in your sweet baby scent.

Here are a few more photos from his 4-month photo shoot!
